I bought one of these that was made by an amateur club in Fairfield CA back in 1988. It works like gangbusters. I suggest adding a five-foot RG-58 coax line choke wound on a 3-4 inch form.
My first impression was that since it was wound with insulated #12 house wire that it was actually a capacitive type coupling.
