This is a short tour of what I believe to be an old barracks building near a mine in Picayne Gulch, near the ghost town of Animas Forks, Colorado, both in San Juan County. The nearest “real” town is Silverton. I used my helmet camera, a GoPro Hero2 HD, and narrate the tour as I go. The video is about three minutes long. Pretty cool to walk through these old buildings, isn’t it! The Colorado Historical Society works to keep the buildings in a state of “arrested decay,” but remember that the only person responsible for your safety is you. This building has a large cook stove, a smithy, and other accouterments that make me thing it was probably a barracks for those working at the mine, or at least the cook hall with an attached workroom. Toward the end of the video, we get a look at some of the other buildings associated with the old mine.
