Ham Radio General Class Lesson 3.3, Control Operator Privileges

Here’s your video introduction to Lesson 3.3, Control Operator Privileges, in the ARRL General Class License Manual. For more information, see www.ke0og.net/general. There are a couple links mentioned in the video:

  • Figure 3-4, page 3-8, which shows the by-band frequency allocations, is out of date with respect to 60 meters, both in terms of allowed modes and the frequency of the middle channel. The current chart can be found at www.arrl.org/files/file/Hambands_color.pdf. Note this is shown erroneously in the text.
  • For the current third part traffic agreements list, see www.arrl.org/third-party-operating-agreements. Note that this list changes from time to time.

After you have finished, click here to go back to the list of videos.

As an aside, the blue screen didn’t work as well as it could have because I was wearing a gray fleece jacket. Gray can be any color, and CyberLink PowerDirector 11 got it confused with the blue background. Lesson learned: wear something that’s obviously not blue! BTW, the background video of the pinion pines was taken in my backyard.

    Hi Dave,

Even in 2018 (11/17/2018), these videos are still relevant to the exam preparations, and just wanted to thank you as well for making these available. I’m getting ready to upgrade to General soon, and find your videos, along with the test prep manuals, invaluable!

    Thanks again !

Hi Dave Thanks again for all the hard work on the video series passed tech with your help working on General now and Extra to follow right behind, I’m going to attempt both at the same time. The link you have posted above is no longer working. I have found this ( http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Regulatory/Band%20Chart/Hambands_color.pdf ) as the new working link. Thanks again!
