Fun Labor Day Ride with Kevin and Aaron

Reader Kevin Gowins left a comment for me (see on this page) that he’d be in the area over the Labor Day weekend on vacation from his home in Texas. Sure enough, he camped outside Lake City. My friend Aaron and I rode to meet him in Animas Forks. To get there, Kevin came up over Cinnamon Pass and Aaron and I went up over Corkscrew, Hurricane, and California Passes. Together we rode up over Stony Pass and enjoyed the views and good riding weather (if a bit chilly). Kevin ran into time issues, so he headed back the way he came to prepare for the long drive back to Texas. Aaron and I went on up to Kite Lake—the Rio Grande was lower and therefore easier to ford, plus the road up to the lake was drier. The views were still just as good! Aaron and I came home via Animas Forks and then on down to Ouray over Denver Divide—a very rough road! All told, Aaron and I were on the road from 10:00 a.m. until around 5:00 p.m., a long day indeed!
