Durango Silverton Train Leaves Silverton

Narrow Gauge RR in the San Juans

Here's a great book on narrow gauge railroads (NGRR) in the San Juan Mountains. Click on the image to learn more and order.

Railfans, pay notice! Everyone loves the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (DSNGRR), based in Durango, Colorado. During the summer, the company runs several morning trains from Durango to Silverton, and then in the afternoon runs trains returning. This video shows a train that has loaded its passengers in Silverton and is headed down the hill. Engine 482 is the locomotive. The video starts with the train at a stop, ringing its bell, and then moving out and picking up speed with some cool whistle effects as the train passes the depot, which is several hundred yards from the passenger loading area. This is my second video of the train. Every time I’m in the high country on my motorcycle (dirt or street) I try to get into Silverton around noon. Yes, I love technology, including the absolute latest, but there’s something magical about a steam locomotive! On my business site at www.mtsneffelspress.com, you can find a book I published for the Ridgway Railroad Museum (see book cover image to right). You can read about the history of narrow gauge railroads all through the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado.
