Here’s your video introduction to Section 5.2, “Display Devices,” in the 11th Edition of the ARRL Extra Class License Manual for Ham Radio. Topics covered include light-emitting diodes, liquid-crystal displays, and charge-coupled devices. Note that the old manual had material about vacuum tubes that is no longer a part of the examination. So, I’ve included the vacuum tube material as bonus material at the end after the credits.

I downloaded the new Extra Class question pool and was surprised at the changes.
A lot of the technical information was familiar, but some was very new.
The changes I have seen from the time I received my Scout Radio Merit Badge till now is fantastic. Vacuum tubes, then transistors, then chips and now SM electronics and optical cables. Miniaturization has made a major impact on both laboratory and field science, and has made a lot of testing gear much more affordable. I am a retired chemist/botanist.
Thank you for your videos. They have helped me quickly review and learn newer material.
