STRANGE! Atmospheric Weirdness (Out of cycle video)

These strange atmospheric formations are weird! I’ve never seen anything like them. Okay all you weather scientists out there, what are they?

  1. Jim Branch says:

The clouds you are seeing in the video is actually smoke from the California wildfires. You are correct in saying you’ve never seen clouds like that before because they aren’t clouds.

This rather long url links to a MODIS image from the noon overpass of the Terra satellite and shows the smoke plume extending toward southwest Colorado. By the time it got there it was very dilute. The smoke is hard to see over southern California and Las Vegas. Don’t confuse it with the very bright clouds over Utah and Wyoming.

    Not atmospheric weirdness Dave.
The very high Cirrus cloud streaks, Ice Chrystal’s, depict the air currents over Mount Sneffels (14,158’).
