Welcome to Dave Casler’s site and blog!
I like to share information and that's what this site is for. I love living in Southwestern Colorado in the San Juan Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountain range. I enjoy motorcycling, both street and dirt, so I keep GPS tracks of my travels to share along with photographs. Oh, the wildflowers aren't bad either!

The Old Railroad Road Bed – New Section I Haven’t Seen Before
For most of the distance between Montrose and Colona (Colorado), the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad right of way runs straight and true just to the west of US Hwy 550. The line was built in 1887, upgraded to … Continue reading
Power Line Roads Still Muddy
With temps well into the 60s, it was time to unlimber the Yamaha XT-250 and head for the hills! With a bit of aid from the Blazer’s battery, it started right up. I had to top off the tire pressure … Continue reading
2012 Riding Season Begins! Ridgway to Norwood
Woohoo! It was warm today! 53.6°F! After some pretty serious work that involved jumper cables, not to mention adding air to the tires and a little oil to the engine, my trusty 1994 Yamaha Seca II was ready to roll! … Continue reading

Gary’s Honda 90 Rides Again!
Gary and I were at it again today, this time at Clear Lake in San Juan County.
Sylvan Beauty: Cow Creek Rd—Ouray CR 12
Cow Creek Road is the eastern end of Ouray CR 12. The word that kept coming to mind as I rode the lengthy road this morning is “sylvan,” which comes from an old French word meaning “forest diety.” To say … Continue reading
Clear Lake Beauty on San Juan CR 12
Clear Lake in San Juan County, Colorado, is a pristine example of a high (above tree line) lake in the bowl of a glacially-carved basin—I traveled there this morning. The lake is natural and is reached by traveling up San … Continue reading
Sideroads: The Galloping Goose Trail
The Galloping Goose was a famous part of the Rio Grand Southern Railroad. RGS connected Ridgway with Telluride and, via Lizard Head Pass, down to Rico and around finally to Durango. The railroad went through some of the most spectacular … Continue reading
