Welcome to Dave Casler’s site and blog!
I like to share information and that's what this site is for. I love living in Southwestern Colorado in the San Juan Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountain range. I enjoy motorcycling, both street and dirt, so I keep GPS tracks of my travels to share along with photographs. Oh, the wildflowers aren't bad either!

The broken arm precludes riding the motorcycle, so I took our Chevy Blazer up over the newly-opened Ouray, Colorado, County Roads 2 and 4. Just beautiful! The Blazer goes a lot slower than the motorcycle! And parts of CR 4 … Continue reading
The Baofeng* UV-5R+ on APRS? Yes, it works! The Baofeng UV-5R+ is an incredibly inexpensive Chinese dual-band handheld, putting out 4 watts on its internal battery. See my review here. Today brought gorgeous weather, but I can’t ride because of … Continue reading
I took this pic of Mt. Sneffels from our back deck a couple days ago. Winter can be pretty, but it’s hard to ride a motorcycle through the snow! Usually the snow becomes serious about melting in March, giving rise … Continue reading
I’ve been pretty unhappy with the way YouTube puts in crazy video “artifacts” and have tried several different upload techniques to avoid them—to no avail. So, I thought I’d try Vimeo. Well, Vimeo is like stepping off a flying broomstick … Continue reading
Here are snippets of fall color video I took yesterday up in the Stealey Mountain Trail Complex. The trail complex is a large collection of ATV trails accessible from Vista Point, Stealey Mountain Trailhead, and an unmarked point further east, … Continue reading
Here’s a little treat—fall color in Ouray County, Colorado, on a little side road tucked away at the south end of Ouray County Road 5 (after entering the Uncompahgre National Forest, it becomes Forest Road 852). The road to Moonshine … Continue reading
Quick update for roads I traveled today: Last Dollar Road near Telluride—I traveled it today. The color is at or near peak. I define peak as when the earliest trees lose their leaves. There is still some green, but mostly … Continue reading
I hopped on my motorcycle yesterday, Friday, September 14th, to check out the fall color. I did the same thing last week. Wow! What a change in a week! It’s not at peak, but if you want to see the … Continue reading
Part 3 covers from the false summit to the real summit. The road gets steeper (waaaaaaay steep) and gnarly. Enjoy! Part 1, which covers from Lower Camp Bird to Upper Camp Bird, is here, and Part 2, which covers from … Continue reading
